VLAN Template

  • Disables IP routing
  • Supports the maximum number of MAC addresses

Routing Template

  • Allows IP routing
  • Supports fewer MAC addresses

Access Template

  • Supports the maximum number of ACLs
  • Enables IP routing
  • Supports slightly more MAC addresses than Routing Template

Default Template

  • AKA Desktop Default template
  • Compromise among the VLAN, Routing, and Access templates

Verification

Switch#show sdm prefers
 The current template is "desktop default" template.
 The selected template optimizes the resources in
 the switch to support this level of features for
 8 routed interfaces and 1024 VLANs.
